Inspired by Leadership Lincoln

by Michael Reinmiller

In 2017, I had the opportunity to participate in Leadership Lincoln’s Project All cohort. One of the days of our time together we all took part in Poverty Simulation. This experience significantly broadened my understanding of the challenges faced by individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness. It was a powerful eye-opener that highlighted how closely we are all connected and how societal circumstances can impact anyone, regardless of background. The simulation fostered greater empathy and awareness, which has continued to shape my perspective.

Since that time, I have actively engaged in community service and leadership roles. I have served on the Board of Fresh Start Home, a shelter dedicated to supporting homeless women, where I have contributed to efforts aimed at providing safe and supportive housing. Additionally, I have been a dedicated teammate for nearly 15 years and regularly volunteer with Meals on Wheels, helping deliver meals to seniors and individuals with mobility challenges.

Starting the Little Free Pantries has also been a meaningful experience, especially as a teaching tool for my son. It has provided opportunities to instill essential values such as kindness, compassion, and the importance of helping others, even when it may be difficult to do so.

Overall, these experiences have reinforced my commitment to community service and leadership. I am grateful for the opportunities provided by Leadership Lincoln to develop a deeper understanding of social issues and to actively contribute to positive change within our community.

Thank you Leadership Lincoln.
